A perfect example of why continued investment in road infrastructure (e.g. East-West link) does little to clear congestion and is counterproductive. Its a backward 20th century thinking does little to wean Australia from its addiction to cars. Our population will continue to expand and investing in roads at the expense of rail and bus will see more cars on the road, not less. What is needed is critical investment in our public transport system. Make public transport an attractive viable option, this takes cars off the roads and lessen the need to expand Australia’s road infrastructure (with the added bonus of being better for the environment).
